OUR CAPACITY AND EXPERIENCE

This initiative is implemented by UNICEF and UNFPA with financial support from Global Affairs Canada. AfriYAN being one of implemented partners works with its members’ organization in Mbeya, Songwe and Zanzibar to advocate on inclusion of adolescents and young people specifically adolescent girls in decision-making structures at community, district, and regional level. Also this project has supported to reach about 140 youth with different training on SRHR, Youth Participation and advocacy, best utilization of social media platforms for advocacy. AfriYAN’s succeeded to strengthened link between Youth led organizations and Government structures (LGAs), increased social media engagement to scale up advocacy, advancement of SRHR Program/activities by AfriYAN Members, Youths from member’s organization actively engage in different community development committees and in other decision making structures.

Safeguard Young People (SYP) Program in Tanzania; is a regional Programme which aims to empower adolescents and young people aged 10-24 to protect themselves from STIs including HIV, early and unintended pregnancies, unsafe abortions, early marriages, harmful cultural practices and gender based violence. SYP under UNFPA Financed by Swiss Development Cooperation since 2020, AfriYAN Tanzania has been implementing SYP program to complement UNFPA’s existing work on improving the sexual and reproductive health and reproductive rights (SRHR) status of young people in 5 selected regions in Tanzania Mainland that is; Kigoma, Shinyanga, Simiyu, Dodoma, Dar es Salaam and in Zanzibar.

Increased access to SRHR among youth: AfriYAN Tanzania has created a Youth Hub with the purpose of providing a platform for young people to learn, share experience and discuss issues around their wellbeing and mainly on SRHR, GBV, Employment, Engagement and participation and Gender equality. Through this platform young people are empowered with knowledge on HIV, SRHR, gender equality, livelihood and skills to enable them to meaningful engage in all national youth development related policies that affects their wellbeing.

YouthWyze Program: It is a regional platform By Youth, For Youth and About Youth aiming at awareness creation on SRHR, GBV and HIV/AIDS among young people through the use of digital platforms. YouthWyze connects young people to one other locally, regionally & globally and links young people to services, experts and knowledge in sexual health, HIV and life under support of SRHR Africa Trust (SAT. This platform seek to create an enabling environment for the promotion of meaningful participation of youth in efforts to eliminate poverty, reduce unemployment, achieve gender equity, respond to HIV, and realize our full sexual and reproductive health and right and ensure we have a stronger voice in the decision-making that impacts our lives and futures.

Ujana Wangu, Nguvu Yangu: A four-year project implemented in Kigoma supported by Irish Aid aiming at ensuring adolescents and young people, particularly adolescent girls, are empowered, healthy and respected, with the ability to exercise their rights, influence and make a difference to the communities where they live. Through this project the organization has been able to form a strong network of youth led and youth serving organisations joined under the umbrella of AfriYAN which aims to enhancing youth participation in the development and implementation of programs related to the development of adolescents and youth. The project also supports capacity building to the members of youth led and youth serving organizations aiming at increasing their knowledge and skills on various issues important to solve challenges facing youth. Access to SRHR services have been made easy among young people in Kigoma, specifically in the project districts.

Universal Access to Family Planning: A five-year project (2018-2022) supported by DIFD targeting women, girls and Marginalized Population: AfriYAN has been engaged in the implementation of this project to promote adolescents and young people’s rights and needs including ASRHR, leadership and engagement in advocacy and policy dialogue on sexual and reproductive health and rights at the national level and awareness creation on SRHR services among young people and community at large.

Youth-led Action for Adolescent Sexual and Reproductive Health Education: A three years project (2017-2019) supported by CIFF aiming at increased health knowledge and skills and more egalitarian attitudes towards gender and power amongst adolescents. The project was implemented in the regions of Tanga, Morogoro, Dodoma, Mtwara and Unguja.
