Afriyan Tanzania took a significant step towards empowering the next generation of
leaders by organizing a Leadership and Governance Workshop for adolescent girls and
youth in Unguja and Pemba. Held on the 29th and 30th of March in Unguja, Zanzibar,
this two-day event aimed to equip participants with crucial skills and knowledge in
leadership and decision-making processes within government structures.

Under the guidance of experienced consultant Mr. Ilunde, the workshop provided a
dynamic platform for participants to engage in various activities, including
brainstorming exercises and pre-training needs assessments. Through interactive group
discussions and enlightening Q&A sessions, attendees explored a wide array of topics,
from personal aspirations and leadership qualities to the significance of youth
participation in decision-making and the obstacles they face.

A significant emphasis was placed on clarifying fundamental concepts such as youth
engagement, participation, and democracy. Participants gained insights into the roles
played by different stakeholders, including the state, citizens, and civil society
organizations. Moreover, practical aspects such as the electoral cycle in Tanzania were
thoroughly discussed, offering valuable insights into voter education, and nomination

The success of the workshop was evident as attendees displayed enthusiasm and
readiness to actively participate in upcoming elections. Their newfound knowledge and
skills are a testament to the workshop’s effectiveness in empowering young leaders to
take charge of their futures and contribute positively to their communities.

Overall, the Leadership and Governance Workshop served as a beacon of hope, inspiring
young people to step up and make a difference
