Who we are

Overview

AfriYAN Tanzania is a dynamic, youth-led network mobilizing youth-led and youth-serving organization across Tanzania with the goal of increasing meaningful youth participation in Africa’s development while addressing the intersecting challenges in the lives of young people. 

AfriYAN Tanzania ‘s 80 youth-led and youth-serving organizational members work in 10 regions of Tanzania from Dar es Salaam, Morogoro, Dodoma, Mwanza, Simiyu, Kigoma, Singida, Mbeya, Songwe to Zanzibar (Unguja) and have a combined capacity to mobilize over 10,000 youth.

Founded in 2015, AfriYAN Tanzania is a member of the broader AfriYAN network and was officially registered in Tanzania in 2017. Our collective mission is to gather young people from diverse youth-serving organizations under one umbrella network with the goal of creating an enabling environment for the promotion of meaningful participation of youth in the HIV response, and efforts to eliminate poverty, reduce unemployment, achieve gender equity and to realize our full sexual and reproductive health and rights.

AfriYAN Tanzania has identified 5 strategic objectives for its work including sexual, reproductive health and rights, youth & HIV/AIDS, eliminating gender-based violence, youth participation in decision-making and youth economic empowerment. Underpinning all our work are core values of gender equity and equality, sustainability, meaningful involvement, transparency and accountability. Together our actions to mobilize and empower young people are resulting in young leaders ready to lead the way towards a stronger Tanzania.

  • Gender equity and equality: The network believes in and values gender equality, equity and the promotion of women’s and girls’ rights.
  • Sustainability: All the network’s activities and structures will conform to community needs and will be maintained with minimum external resources.
  • Meaningful involvement: Every effort will be made to ensure that adolescents and youth access information, opportunities and resources that the network brings forth.
  • Transparency & Accountability: The activities of the network will be transacted openly in a manner that allows for consistent consultation and free flow of information and resources to all young people.
